There is a proposal to introduce a 20 mph safety zone on the roads around
Warmington School. The following is an extract from the Parish Council Minutes
for 24 November 2008:
...the offer of a trial 20mph zone through the village of
Warmington had arisen following an earlier meeting with Verity Chilver and
members of the Parish Council. There are three other such offers of trials in
the County, one being in Fotheringhay. At the meeting with Ms Chilver the Parish
Council expressed a wish for there to be a 20 mph limit past the School. Plans
have now been drawn up for a more comprehensive zone taking in Church Street,
School Lane, the majority of Hautboy Lane and part of Broadgate Way. These
proposals are now subject to discussion by the Parish Council. However, as the
money has been allocated in this financial year it has to be spent in this
financial year and thus the Parish Council need to make a very speedy decision.
Mr Reid proposed and Mr Rowell seconded that the trial be accepted in principle
with the detail being discussed further. The majority were in favour of this
with the exception of Dr Helstrip who was concerned that more knowledge should
be available before such a decision was made. Dr Helstrip was concerned as to
how the 20 mph limit would be enforced and that once the Scheme was installed
there would be no going back. It was agreed that the Parish Council consider the
plans in detail over the next 7 days. The Clerk will then contact Mr Robinson
and an onsite meeting will be set up with the Community Engineers as necessary
to discuss any amendments.
Subsequent to the meeting a number of changes to scheme have been proposed
to take into account the practicalities of sitting the signage in narrow
sections of roadway, ensuring visibility of the signs and a need to cover the
higher risk junctions and pedestrian routes to and from the School. The proposed
20 mph safety zone is marked in blue in the map below.
A more detailed plan of the proposal will be on display in the Village Shop
from Thursday 27 November 2008. Time to comment on the proposal is very limited
as a final decision will probably be taken early next week. If you wish to
